About Karyle

Karyle Barnes speaking to an audience

Karyle Barnes' work sits at the intersection of PEOPLE, CULTURE, AND POSSIBILITY; exploring how we develop people, strengthen communities, and prepare the next generation to navigate and shape a changing world.

Born and raised in East St. Louis, Karyle's perspective has been shaped as much by life as it has by his professional experience. Working through grief, setbacks, and seasons where he had to connect the dots and find his own way taught him firsthand how to move through life without always having the guidance you need.

Those experiences became part of the foundation for his work.

Karyle believes the lessons we learn through adversity shouldn't end with us. They should become G.A.M.E. we pass on to the next generation. Guidance that can help young people  make better sense of the world around them.

Today, as an urban strategist, speaker, and consultant, Karyle brings together lived experience and years of work in education and youth development to help young people tap into their inner genius and turn potential into reality.

The Philosophy

Everybody has an ounce of genius in them.

Genius isn't about having all the answers or being the smartest person in the room. It's about learning how to take what's inside of you, your ideas, abilities, and perspective, and turn them into something tangible.

Let's be real: potential doesn't develop in isolation. Young people are growing up facing real-life situations and most simply don't have the right people or resources around them. No matter how much potential a young person has, when it isn't recognized, it can easily go unrealized. Too many of our young people never get the opportunity to become everything they were capable of becoming.

That's where Genius comes in.

Genius is learning how to connect the dots. Put the pieces together. Taking disadvantages and finding ways to use them to your advantage. Embracong adversity without allowing it to define your possibilities. It's developing the mindset and skills necessary to change reality.

Because the goal isn't simply to tell young people they have potential.

It's to help them actualize it.

Potential is what could be.
Genius is turning it into what is.
